December 2025, Volume 44 Number 2
In this issue of The Messenger, Mid-America Reformed Seminary pauses to give thanks for a season marked by remarkable milestones and God's faithful provision. President Dr. Alan Strange opens with a timely Advent reflection on the importance of keeping the gospel distinct from political agendas, written against the backdrop of a turbulent national moment. The development report celebrates a year of newness — new leadership, new facilities, and another strong year of giving — while noting a current shortfall heading into year-end. Two landmark events receive dedicated coverage: the inauguration of Dr. Strange as the seminary's second president, and the dedication of the newly expanded building and chapel, both celebrated with worship, community, and gratitude. A recap of the CME Conference, "Gossiping the Gospel," highlights a record attendance of over three hundred people, with a notably strong showing of young people. Dr. J. Mark Beach continues his series on pastoral leadership with a pointed second installment, pushing back against the "hired help" model of ministry and calling for a biblically balanced partnership between pastors and elders. Rounding out the issue is an alumni profile of Vern Picknally (Class of 1999), who reflects on over two decades of OPC ministry and his recent installation as pastor of Christ Presbyterian in Janesville, Wisconsin.
